Appendicitis during pregnancy

Appendicitis is known to be most commonly required emergency surgery during the pregnancy stage of a woman. The anatomical changes which occur during appendicitis are the ones that cause most complications in the test of appendix. This stage can easily deteriorate the process of checking and even diagnosis of appendicitis. This delayed loss can be due to damage in fetus and even fetal loss.

During the pregnancy stage the appendicitis mainly ranges from 0.05%-0.13%, these usually occur in the second or even the third trimester. Appendicitis rate between non pregnant and pregnant women are the same, but the chances of the pregnant women are higher in contracting such problem. There is basically inverse relationship among appendicitis and pregnancy. In the third trimester pregnancy also shows a protective effect in the women’s body.

The symptoms of pregnancy and even appendicitis are quite similar and this is the main cause why it becomes difficult to find out the difference between appendicitis and pregnancy. Leukocytosis and even hypertension are related to pregnancy and adds complexity to process of diagnosis. These also add complexities to the process of judgment, there is damaging and rupture to the uterus so the ability to localize and even diagnosis further increases.

Physical examination and even history remain helpful. Right lower quadrant pain, upper quadrant right side pain, diffusion of periumbilical pain that is migrating to the right and the lower quadrant, nausea and even vomiting can be called as the most common symptoms. The other most common symptoms of appendicitis are tenderness in the abdomen, mostly in right lower quadrant, rebound tenderness and even guarding, are thought to be least common in late pregnancy due to laxity of the abdominal wall and its muscles. One research found that in less than one third patients the classic Rovsing, obturator, psoas signs were more prominent. There have been many findings but lots have been proved as unreliable.

To improve the outcome of fetus and mother there are antibiotics that are preferred along with the proper surgery, this is mostly recommended by the medical experts and this should be properly followed. When there are appropriate conditions, laparoscopy appendectomy can be really safe as the open appendectomy. This basically has an advantage because in laparoscopy you use less narcotics thus at the pregnancy stage this is mostly required by the women, there are less chances of people getting the narcotics related depression, and even less chances of narcotics affecting the child in the womb.
